The course’s objective is to develop in each student the personal confidence to successfully use chalk pastels. Each week, the demonstrated technique will build upon the previous session beginning with monochromatic studies progressing to full-color shaded compositions. The subject matter will concentrate on a variety of still-lifes stressing successful two-dimensional design principles such as format, proportion, balance, rhythm and emphasis. We will conclude with expressive gesture drawings of the human figure using projections on the classroom video screen (Smartboard). If the class decides we would like a live, professional model, a small stipend will be collected. No experience is necessary.
